Sat, 19 May 2007 Douglas Adams is best known for hist Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a series which began on radio and developed into a "trilogy" of five books. Friends and fans of Adams knew he was also an environmental activist, lover of fast cars and a self-described "radical atheist". Adams was also an early adopter of all kinds of technology, using such inventions as e-mail before they became popularized. Toward the end of his life, he was a sought-after lecturer on topics including technology and the environment. Since his death at the age of 49, he is still widely revered in science fiction and fantasy fandom circles. Here's a selection of the most popular Douglas Adams quotations from Quotiki.com.

Thu, 10 May 2007 We're well into the spring and I can feel the wedding season
heating up. Wedding traditions can be tons of fun, but one of the traditions that tends to be dreaded is having to give a speech or toast (or having to listen to them). Last fall, I had the honor of being the best man at my friend Mike's wedding. As the wedding day drew closer and closer, I started to panic as my preparation of "a few words about the Groom" could not be put off any longer. While my speech came almost entirely from the heart, I did visit the Internet for some inspiration. When all was said and done, I did not fumble over my words to much and even received a genuine laugh or two. Wedding toasts and speeches are an important part of what is usually the most important day in the life of the couple. If you have the honor this summer of public speaking at a wedding this summer, maybe you could use a little inspiration too from some wedding quotes...

Sat, 31 March 2007 I found a link to an interesting article at the Humanities Talks blog. The article, The 20 Greatest Historical Myths,
dubunks many well-known historical "facts" as pure myth. I'll leave it
up to you to decide how significant some of these inaccuracies are (or
if even true), but I recommend this as a read for anyone who likes
history. My favorite correction was that Magellan never actually
circumnavigated the globe, and personally only made it half way around
the world. Richard and I covered some of the historical people on the list in our Quotiki podcast including Napoleon, Marie Antoinette, Shakespeare and Ghandi. We even covered some of these historical inaccuracies ourselves, but we fell for a few of them too. Category: general -- posted at: 8:22 PM Comments[0] |
